The Maryland Lavender Festival
My impression of the Maryland Lavender Festival crowd was that there were two main groups of people in attendance: those who couldn't resist a lavender field photo shoot and those who are really into gardening and herbs. I imagine both groups left the event satisfied. Personally, I came for the photos and lavender infused food and lemonade. Lavender is known to help with anxiety and depression, so I'm giving myself a self-care point, as well.
The event was held June 17-18 at Springfield Manor Winery & Distillery in Thurmont, Maryland. The beautiful setting includes a vineyard and lavender field with a mountain backdrop beyond the private estate's perfectly manicured grass. Just an hour's drive from Baltimore, it was the perfect weekend escape.
Like any festival, there was food, music, and vendors, but what made this unique, aside from the lavender field, were the seminars on topics like identifying and preserving herbs, edible flowers, and wellness with essential oils. Even though the event sold out, it wasn't overcrowded and everyone could enjoy the lavender field or relax comfortably. I hadn't heard of Springfield Manor before, but for better or worse I now have another wine tasting spot to add to my list.
