Service at the Jungle: A New Baltimore Dinner Series

Service at the Jungle: A New Baltimore Dinner Series

One thing I love about Baltimore is the creativity and ingenuity of its residents. New projects and events are constantly popping up around the city and it's worth the time to stay up to date with the latest developments.

I recently came across one of these new projects, a monthly dinner series called Service at the Jungle, which combines fine dining and a unique style of interior design. The series was created by Elan Kotz and Hilton Carter, an interior designer whose style blurs the lines between interior and exterior. Every month, a different local chef prepares a multiple-course meal for a small number of guests at Jungle By The Falls, a plant-filled, intimate loft-turned-event space designed by Hilton Carter.

I attended the first ever Service at the Jungle dinner. The $80 ticket price included a four-course meal from Chef Carlos Raba of Clavel, one of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore. The menu was titled "En La Selva" or "In the Jungle" and included Mexican-inspired dishes like flounder ceviche with squid ink, citrus juice, cilantro oil, and serrano pepper, seared local scallops and beef tenderloin with dried chapulin (grasshoppers) and mole, and matcha ginger ice cream with tamarind sauce for dessert.

Not surprisingly, everything was amazing, but if I had to choose favorites they would be the seared scallops and flounder ceviche.

Aside from the food, the event itself made for a great evening. We were welcomed with a cocktail and mingled with other guests before everyone sat down at one of two round tables for dinner. The size of the loft made it feel like a dinner party at someone’s home where strangers would naturally talk to each other rather than a restaurant event where people tend to keep to themselves.

As I mentioned before, Service at the Jungle is a monthly series. To find out about the next dinner, follow @serviceatthejungle on Instagram where they post a new Eventbrite link for each dinner.
